South Africa: Transnet postpones annual rail line maintenance work

Amid the ongoing civil unrest in KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa, Transnet has postponed the scheduled annual maintenance of its rail line connecting to RBCT port to 20-26 July, as per reports. It had earlier been decided that the work would be carried out between 13 and 19 July. Subsequently, all the trains originally planned for a halt have been requested to be loaded today. After assessing the risks involved due to the shutdown, the rail operator has concluded that the ongoing protests may hamper maintenance work, impacting the value chain and even harm employees and machinery.
