India’s coal imports from South Africa fell to 2.13 mn t in Jun’21, down 33% m-o-m and 24% y-o-y, CoalMint data reveals. Imports have been declining since Mar’21 due to a sharp rise in South African coal prices amid train derailments in the country coupled with robust demand from China and resilient freight rates. South African coal exports to Pakistan fell by 26% m-o-m to 0.75 mn t, while exports to China slipped by 24% m-o-m to touch 0.72 mn t.
