Pakistan: Scrap restocking by mills ahead of Eid triggers price uptick

Ferrous scrap import prices into Pakistan have moved up slightly compared with the beginning of this week, as per SteelMint reports.

  • Deals for 7,000 t of containerised shredded scrap were reported at $543-548/t CFR Port Qasim.
  • The Pakistan market is active in buying ferrous scrap ahead of the Eid holidays, which has resulted in a hike in prices.
  • SteelMint’s bi-weekly price assessment for containerised shredded scrap stands at $545/t CFR Port Qasim, up by $2/t against the beginning of this week. Offers, however, are cited at $545-550/t CFR.
  • UAE-origin HMS 1 prices have increased on active buying and are currently being quoted at $500-505/t CFR Qasim.
  • Demand for Middle East-origin HMS has increased since the last 10 days, with buyers having procured around 15,000-20,000 t of late.
