Taiwan: CSC Chairman urges govt to push US to lift steel tariffs

Wong Chao-Tung, President of Taiwan Steel and Iron Industries Association and Chairman of China Steel Corporation (CSC), has urged the Taiwanese government to push the US for a reduction in tariff surcharges for cold-rolled and coated steel products, as per latest reports. Only a handful of countries have been granted exemption from the 25% tariff on steel imports imposed by the US in 2018 under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act. The tariff, Wong said, has had a great impact on Taiwanese steel manufacturers and steel shipments from Taiwan have decreased as a result.
