India: Scrap import market remains quiet, prices stable

Import offers for shredded ferrous scrap in containers into India remain firm on 29 Jun’21 compared to the week ending 25 Jun’21. Trade activities seem to have dried up and the market is silent due to high inventories and poor finished steel demand. There is limited buying interest at current offers given falling steel margins.

  • SteelMint’s biweekly assessment for UK/Europe-origin containerised shredded scrap stands at $535-540/t, CFR Nhava Sheva, stable against the end of last week.
  • Assessments for UAE-origin HMS 1 are now at $480-485/t, CFR, while those for HMS 1&2 (80:20) are at $475/t, CFR.
