Indian ports to receive 4 mn t of thermal coal till mid-July

The vessel-line-up data (as on 25 Jun’21) maintained with CoalMint reveals that a total volume of 3.94 million tonnes (mn t) of thermal coal will arrive at Indian ports between 23 Jun’21-15 Jul’21 from various origins.

Krishnapatnam Port overtook Mundra Port this week to become the highest receiver of thermal coal, at 0.61 mn t, with 0.15 mn t coming from Indonesia, 0.14 mn t from Australia, 0.13 mn t from the US, 0.12 mn t from Mozambique, and 78,140 t from South Africa.

Sembcorp Gayathri Power has the highest shipment of 0.23 mn t, which is arriving at Krishnapatnam Port from Indonesia, and South Africa, followed by Adani Enterprise with 0.14 mn t coming in from Australia.

Following Krishnapatnam, Hazira Port is set to receive the second-highest volume of 0.49 mn t of thermal coal with the maximum quantity (0.39 mn t) arriving from Indonesia followed by (58,500 t) South Africa, and (40,000 t) Russia.

Mundra Port is the next highest receiver of thermal coal at 0.47 mn t with 0.32 mn t arriving from Indonesia, and 0.15 mn t from Australia.

Out of the total volume of thermal coal arriving from various countries, the highest is coming from Indonesia at 1.73 mn t followed by South Africa at 1.02 mn t.

In case of vessels arriving from Indonesia, the highest volume is coming for Adani Enterprise at 0.4 mn t followed by Adani Power at 0.17 mn t, and Nayara Energy at 0.16 mn t.

  • In South African coal, Adani Enterprise has booked the highest volume of 0.33 mn t, arriving at Gangavaram and Krishnapatnam ports, followed by JSW Ispat and Bhushan Power’s vessel of 0.16 mn t coming in at Vizag Port. At Dhamra Port, 97,000 t of South African coal will arrive for Tata Steel.
  • For vessels arriving from Australia, the highest volume has been booked by Adani Enterprise at 0.22 mn t followed by Adani Power at 0.15 mn t.

Adani Enterprise tops buyers’ list for fourth week

Adani Enterprise topped the list of buyers, with 0.94 mn t of thermal coal expected to arrive at Indian ports from Indonesia (0.40 mn t), South Africa (0.33 mn t) and Australia (0.22 mn t).

This is followed by Swiss Singapore whose thermal coal vessels are arriving from South Africa (0.16 mn t), the US (0.11 mn t), and Indonesia (97,000 t).
