Bangladeshi steel producer GPH Ispat has started commercial production of long steel products at its Chittagong-based plant, the company’s recent Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) disclosure revealed. The new plant has a capacity to produce 0.84 mn t of mild steel (MS) billet and 0.64 mn t of MS rod, steel beam, angle and channel. Primetals Technologies, Austria is the main technology supplier to the plant. Lack of on-site support of technicians during the pandemic delayed its commissioning, as per reports. GPH Ispat has a market share of roughly around 15% in Bangladesh. The country’s steel production capacity is around 7 mn t per annum.
