Steel billet imports by China in May’21 registered a rise of 37% m-o-m to around 1.03 mn t. On yearly basis, imports increased by 34%, as per Chinese customs data.
- Vietnam, Indonesia, Iran, Oman, Malaysia and India were the predominant exporters.
- The rise in Chinese billet imports can be attributed to increased supply from Iran and Oman on active Chinese restocking ahead of monsoons.
