World crude steel output by the 64 countries tracked by the World Steel Association (WSA) stood at 174.40 mn t in May ’21, a growth of 17% y-o-y against 148.78 mn t in the corresponding period last year. Likewise, on a monthly basis, steel output rose by 3% compared to 169.50 mn t in April.
Country-wise crude steel output in May:
- China churned out 99.50 mn t of crude steel, up by 6.6% y-o-y.
- India produced 9.20 mn t, higher by 46.9% on year.
- Japan’s output stood at 8.40 mn t, a growth of 42.2% y-o-y.
