Mongolia, a key coking coal exporter to China, was forced to suspend exports from 13-16 Jun’21 due to the recent outbreak of COVID. On the other hand, China had to shut its borders from 16-20 June amid rising coronavirus cases in Mongolia, as per market sources. About 4 mn t of coal was ready for delivery from Mongolia’s largest coking and thermal coal mine Tavan Tolgoi, and 1,500 trucks were stuck in a long queue between the mine and the Mongolia-China border last week.
