India’s Top Iron Ore Producing States in FY21

Iron ore production in India in FY21 reached 203.9 mn t, 17% down compared to FY20’s 245.5 mn t. Odisha, India’s eighth-largest state (area-wise), accounted for more than half of India’s total iron ore production at 107.3 mn t. But, compared to FY20, Odisha’s contribution to India’s total iron ore production decreased 26%.

Chhattisgarh became the second-largest iron ore producing state in FY21 and its production increased by 4.3% from 35.3 mn t in FY20 to 36.8 mn t in FY21.

Karnataka’s iron ore production jumped by 14.3% from 30 mn t in FY20 to 34.3 mn t in FY21. Jharkhand saw a major dip in iron ore production in FY21 from 28.2 mn t in FY20 to 21 mn t in FY21.
