Odisha: Government permits Minerals Transport; Iron Ore Supply looks up

Odisha Government had prohibited transportation of minerals by means of trucks from 05-20 Apr, 2014 via a letter circulated on 03 April, 2014 by election commission’s officer.

The state authorities have given consent to start over the same w.e.f 18 Apr, 2014.

To ensure smooth polling because of general and state assembly elections in the state this month, mineral movement was restricted. Miners having their own railway siding continued to dispatch the raw material.

Directives were given out to the Collectors of Jajpur, Keonjhar & Sundargarh district to stop ore loading activity. In addition, Odisha mining directorate assured that no mining activity takes place.

Odisha based Iron ore miners express, “We have begun dispatching the mineral last day onward, which was completely on hold for previous couple of weeks. Miners have to wrap up deliver of the orders received altogether by the end of this month”.

“Sponge iron prices in the state escalated by INR 900/MT in two weeks because of feeble Iron ore availability and recovery in demand. Prices may perhaps sustain at existing level for the reason that Iron ore transportation begin”, say Sponge iron manufacturers.

Odisha is the leading Iron ore producing state in India. It contributed 62-63 MnT (46%) production to country’s total output at 136 MnT in FY14.
