Cyclones result in 1.45 mn t loss in coal handling at ports in May’21

Almost 0.53 mn t of coal cargo handling at the country’s eastern ports was affected due to the Yaas cyclone, CoalMint data shows. The cyclone led to suspension of port operations for almost two and a half days. During the Tauktae cyclone, which disrupted operations at India’s western ports for almost three days, a handling loss of 0.92 mn t had been estimated. Paradip and Mundra incurred maximum losses at 0.32 mn t and 0.26 mn t respectively.
