Chinese mills churned out 16 mn t of hot-rolled coil (HRC) in Apr ’21, up by 8.2% m-o-m on the back of higher exports, as per data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The surge in production was driven by increased overseas demand during the month due to the impending export rebate cancellation, SteelMint notes. China’s flat steel exports aggregated 5.3 mn t (mainly HRC) in Apr ’21, up by 9.5% on month.
