Vehicle sales across categories declined by 30% to 12,70,458 units last month, as against 18,19,682 units in Mar ’21 as COVID-19-led restrictions across various states impacted demand, according to SIAM(Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), SteelMint learned from the press release.
- Sales of passenger vehicles fell by 10% m-o-m at 261,633 units.
- Three-wheeler sales were reported at 13,728 units, down 57% m-o-m.
- Two-wheeler dispatches to dealers declined by 33% m-o-m at 9,95,097 units.
Commenting on the Apr data, Mr Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM said “Supply Chain related production challenges continue with the lockdown restrictions in many parts of the country. The demand has been clearly impacted by the second wave of COVID-19, both in terms of low consumer sentiments and closure of dealerships due to lockdown restrictions”.
