Mining and metals major Vedanta has elevated two steel industry veterans to the position of CEO in the company with an eye on driving its steel business in the country. Sauvick Mazumdar, head of Vedanta’s iron and ferro alloys business and former CEO of Sesa Goa Iron Ore, has been appointed as CEO of Vedanta’s iron and steel business. N.L. Vhatte, former Director of Vedanta’s Value-Added Business, has been appointed CEO of Electrosteel Steels Ltd. (ESL), which Vedanta acquired in 2018 to diversify into the Indian steel business. Mazumdar has been instrumental in driving Vedanta’s iron ore and merchant pig iron business as well as Odisha-based FACOR.
