Circular: Rename of Sponge Iron in SteelMint Circulation

With increasing trade of Pellet Sponge (made from Iron Pellets) on customer’s request we are now renaming our nomenclature of Sponge Iron & Pellet Sponge.

It is to be noted that from now Pellet Sponge (made from Iron Pellets) will be denoted as P-DRI and Sponge Iron (made from Calibrated Lumps Ore) will be denoted as C-DRI.

India is the largest Sponge iron producing country with an annual production of over 23 MnT against installed capacity of 45 MnT pa. According to a recent study conducted by SteelMint & Steel-360, it was noted that out of 23 MnT production, around 55% is Sponge iron (C-DRI) and 45% is Pellet Sponge (P-DRI).
