Freight traffic at 12 major Indian ports decline 5% y-o-y in FY ’21: IPA

Freight traffic handled by 12 major Indian ports contracted by around 5% y-o-y to 672.61 mn t during the last fiscal year, the data by Indian Ports Association (IPA) showed.
Cargo handling activities were disrupted due to COVID-19 restrictions, mainly in the first half of the year.
Deendayal port handled the highest traffic in FY ’21 at 117.56 mn t, followed by Paradip port at 114.55 mn t.
Ports’ freight traffic increased for the fifth consecutive month in Mar ’21, rising by 16.4%, the largest in at least a year.
