India: Domestic scrap prices soar over inadequate imported scrap volumes

Melting prices have gone up by INR 100-600/t in most of the locations except Ludhiana market where prices remained range-bound without any major change. Limited availability of scrap in the domestic market on the back of limited imported scrap bookings along with rising semi-finished steel prices could be attributed as the factors supporting melting scrap prices, trade associates reported to SteelMint. Prices in the near term are expected to remain supportive on a d-o-d basis specifically in Western and Southern region.
