India: Goa Minerals starts Sponge Iron Production in Karnataka

The VM Salgaocar Group of Companies has set up a Sponge Iron Plant in Dharwad (Karnataka), under the name of Goa Minerals.

The DRI unit has an installed capacity of 60,000 MT pa of Sponge iron with 2*100 TPD kilns which will eventually be expanded to 4*100 TPD kilns along with a steel melting shop, billet plant of 0.5MnT and a 30 MW power plant. The plant has been commissioned and production has started on 23 Mar, 2014.

The entire Coal requirement is met through imports from South Africa and the Iron ore/Pellet consumed is domestically procured.

Mr. Tapan Patnaik, CEO, has extensive experience in the Sponge iron and Pig iron industry and will oversee all aspects of the plant.  The entire marketing arrangement will be carried out by the CEO in association with Mr. Sanjay Netravalkar, who has significant experience in the marketing of metallics.
