The Andhra Pradesh government has chosen Sanjeev Gupta’s Liberty Steel as a joint venture partner for construction of the YSR Steel Plant to be built in Kadapa district in the state. The 3 mn t/per annum steel plant is expected to commence first phase of commercial production of 1 mn t of finished steel products from 31 Mar’2024. The state government has inked an MoU with NMDC for long-term supply of 4.5 mn t/year of iron ore for the plant. Liberty would spend INR 10,802 crore on building the plant.
