Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has rejected the
Federation of Indian Mineral based Industries (FIMI) plea against the proposed
e-auction of minerals. The mineral lobby group has raised objection before the
union ministry of mines (MoM) against the e-auction and subsequently the ministry
had sought clarifications from the Odisha steel and mines department on the
issue.
Advocating strongly for e-auction, Odisha steel and
mines secretary, Mr.Rajesh Verma said since this is the best method to discover
market oriented prices, besides curtailing cartelization and to bring in much
needed transparency to cure the ills of the sector, with introduction of
e-auction issues regarding sale of ore/minerals and price fixing mechanism can
be adequately addressed.
Calling upon Ministry of Mines to consider introducing
e-auction a mineral mandatory keeping in view its overwhelming benefits,
Mr.Verma goes on to say that apart from providing equal and fair opportunity to
all stakeholders, e-auction method can ensure the government realization of
correct revenue through taxes, royalty etc.
