Taiwan’s leading steelmaker China Steel Corporation (CSC) has reported 1.4% y-o-y decline in its carbon steel sales volume at 10.14 mn t in CY’20 against 10.28 mn t in CY’19. The year-on-year decrease was mainly due to the outbreak of COVID-19 worldwide, which had significantly reduced steel demand both in Taiwan and in overseas markets during H1 CY’20. In addition to it, the production capacity was reduced by 10% in April, and the overhaul of the No. 2 blast furnace (approximately 24.2% of production capacity) originally planned to begin in October was launched to the end of July.
