India, the world’s third largest Coal importing country has registered a slight decline in Coal import for February and imported around 12.7 MnT of Coal.
India has imported around 12.7 MnT of Coal during Feb’14 which declined by 6% than 13.5 MnT Coal imported in Jan’14. India’s import comprises of 76% Non-coking, 20% Coking Coal and other (Coke/Anthracite) made up the rest of its total imports during Feb’14.

In Feb’14, India imported 8.9 MnT Coal from Indonesia and registered a jump of 8.6% against the prior month.
The second biggest supplier was Australia, supplying around 2.5 MnT; a drop of 28.5% compared to previous month. South Africa was ranked third as India imported around 0.62 MnT of Coal from South Africa; declined by 23% from 0.82 MnT of Jan’14 import.

SteelMint assessed that Mundra port has imported highest quantity i.e. around 2.7 MnT in Feb’14 which was increased by 35.4% compared to Jan’14 import.
Ennore port on the East Coast of India was the second highest quantity port, imported around 1 MnT of Coal.
Now, India has become the world’s third largest consumer of Coal because of increased demand from power stations and steelmakers.
SteelMint assessed that major importers like Adani Power, Coastal Gujarat Power & JSW Steel imports around 1.5 MnT, 1.3 MnT & 0.9 MnT respectively. Adani Power has imported the maximum quantity from Indonesia, South Africa & Australia which has increased by 78% compare to previous month. Total imported quantity was Non-coking Coal.
Indian steel giants, SAIL & Tata Steel have imported around 0.62 MnT & 0.4 MnT Coal respectively in Feb’14. Import of SAIL has declined by around 40% against last month.
