World crude steel output declines by 2% in Nov ’20

The crude steel output of 64 steel producing countries has gone down by 2% in Nov ‘20 to 158.26 mn t compared to 161.89 mn t a month ago, as per recent data released by World Steel Association (WSA). However, in Nov ’20, crude steel output increased by 7%, as against 148.42 mn t in CPLY.

During eleven months (Jan-Nov) CY ’20, cumulative output volume inched down by 1% to 1,670.40 mn t as against 1,691.85 mn t in a similar time frame of previous year.

China’s crude steel production fell by 5% m-o-m-
China’s crude steel output slipped by 5% in Nov ‘20 to 87.66 mn t due to autumn-winter restrictions on production until March ’21. In the previous month output was 92.20 mn t.

The Tangshan govt. has restricted the blast furnace, sintering and kiln related activities by about 45% for mills graded as B and C. This has led to a decline in output for the second consecutive month. However, production grew by 8% on y-o-y basis.

India’s crude steel production witnesses 2% uptick m-o-m-
India’s crude steel output stood at 9.25 mn t in Nov ’20, increasing by 2% as against 9.06 mn t in Oct ’20. Robust demand in the domestic market from the auto and consumer durable sectors led to an increase in production by the manufacturers. The mills continued to operate at around 89% of their production capacity during the month. Also, output moved up by 3% annually.

Japan’s crude steel production increases marginally-
Nation’s crude steel output increased marginally in Nov ‘20 by 1% to 7.26 mn t as against 7.20 mn t in Oct ’20. Japanese mills have raised crude steel production amid healthy demand from the auto and construction sector. However, volumes were down by 6% annually.
