Demand for finish long is poor all over India. To maintain margins, manufactures are changing re-bar prices with regular change in size difference charges.
Recently, TMT manufacturers in Mumbai revised the parity of TMT. They have increased 10 and 12 mm price by Rs 200 based on size difference.
Earlier, manufacturers used to add Rs 1,600 for 12 mm in prices opened in the market but 15th June onwards they have started adding Rs 1,800 which is up by Rs 200/MT.
Another example is that earlier, TMT manufacturers used 12 mm TMT prices as Basic Price all over India except Durgapur and South India. But, from January onwards, TMT manufacturers had revised TMT parity and shifted to 20 mm as basic price, with new size difference calculations. At Raipur, TMT manufacturers had replaced 20 mm as basic from 12mm on the 5th of January 2013. After that 12 mm TMT prices went up by Rs 600/MT.
Similarly, most of the markets in India followed the trend and made 20 mm as basic price except for Ahmedabad, Durgapur and Jaipur (that have held 12 mm as basic). 20 mm TMT is rarely used in construction and thus its price was lesser than 12 mm TMT by around Rs 600-1000/MT.
