China’s Ministry stops approving scrap import quotas for 2020

The ministry of Ecology and Environment of China (MEE) had published its 13th scrap import quota in Oct ’20. This was the final approval of imports for 2020, as per BIR. MEE-approved import quota volumes totalled 8,429,968 t in 2020, including 24,467 t of steel scrap. It has stopped accepting and approving import license applications for solid waste that can be used as raw materials. Industry is looking forward to China’s reforms on steel scrap imports which are expected to be out in Jan’21.
