India: Primary Producers keep Flat Steel mid June Prices same

Low demand from retail and automobile sector has forced the manufacturers of flat steel to keep the prices of material at same levels. SAIL's HR Coil prices are trading at same level as were trading at the beginning of the month. 'No discount or rebate is offered on the material as of now, prices are unchanged' confirmed a MoU holder based in Ludhiana. Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad also followed the trend keeping the prices same. 

Currently ex-works prices are in the range of Rs 33000-33500/MT for HRC. Trading prices across the country in various cities are in the range of Rs 40,000-40500/MT.

A trader based in Kolkata said, “Market is not encouraging at this moment”, on the other side a trader based in Kanpur said, “work in CRC sheet is there but trade volume is quite low”.

Flat Steel imports in India has increased in May'13, quantity imported is at around 4,84,600 MT which is higher by 23% when compared to previous month. Import of HRC in the month of May stands at 83,500 MT against 134,500 MT in the month of April. Quantity of CRC imported stands at 78,400 MT compared to 93,100 MT in April. In the May'13 Galvanized coated material import from Japan was at 106,800 MT against 23,100 MT in April'13.

SteelMint assessed that in May'13 average price of HRC were at Rs 32,300-33,500/MT from Japan and Korea delivered JNPT and Mumbai Port. CR Coil was at Rs 36,000-37,000/MT.
