Odisha – India’s largest iron ore producing state recorded production of 9.43 mn t in Oct’20, up 20%, as against 7.82 mn t in Sep’20, according to the provisional data of the Odisha Govt. maintained by SteelMint. The figures include the type of material – fines, lump, and concentrate.
- Production from captive miners like – JSW, Tata Steel, SAIL and AM/NS increased. JSW Steel’s production stood at 1.89 mn t, up 53% on a monthly basis as against 1.24 mn t in Sep’20.
- State owned miner – OMC recorded output of 0.88 mn t, rise as compared to 0.62 mn t in Sep’20. This is due to resumption in production from its Gandhamardhan B block and commencement of operations at Tiring Pahar mines.
- Serajuddin Mines resumed iron ore mining operations after a gap of seven months. The miner recorded production of 0.15 mn t. The miner had retained its mines with EC of 15.15 mn t pa in the Mar’20 auctions. However, SteelMint learnt that the company is unlikely to offer significant quantities in the coming months. Serajuddin, like other new lessees operating auctioned mines, is seriously constrained by “stacking” issues.
- Sarda mines production decreased to 0.61 mn t for Oct’20 as compared to 1.36 mn t in Sep’20. The drop in production was due to issues arriving on grounds that the Environment Clearance (EC) only allowed transportation by conveyor belt. In the latest development in the Sarda Mines Private Limited (SMPL) iron ore case, the Delhi High Court has extended the date of hearing to 16th Dec’20. This means, SMPL can continue its operations till the next hearing.Odisha Iron Ore Production graph
