India Coal Washery Capacity

Indian coal of drift origin is characterized by high ash content with impurities disseminated in the bed, which requires washing to improve its quality.

Washeries can also lend a helping hand in order to curb the expanding imports which are continuously growing in line with the surge in coal demand.

At present, installed capacity for coal washeries in the country stood at 215.9 mn t, of which around 80% is utilized for washing non-coking coal.

Majority of the washeries are operated by state owned Coal India Ltd, while in the private sector, Aryan Coal Benefication is having the highest capacity for producing washed coal.
