South East Asian imported scrap prices have increased on a weekly basis, following a global price trend. However, buyers remained less active to place new bookings for imported scrap.
Offers for Vietnam up by $5-10 w-o-w: Vietnam based steel mills concluded few bulk cargo deals last week at an increased price level. Imported scrap offers for Japanese scrap have risen by $10-15/t over a week’s time.
- Offers for Japanese bulk H2 currently stands at around $308-310 /t CFR level. Some deals have been concluded at around $308/t levels last week.
- US origin bulk HMS 1&2 (80:20) is being offered at around $312-313/t CFR Vietnam.
- SteelMint’s assessment for Japanese bulk H2 stands steady at $308/t, CFR Vietnam level, assessment for US origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) is stands at $310/t CFR level.
Indonesia imported scrap offers stable w-o-w: Imported scrap offers to Indonesia showed stability since last two weeks. While fresh bookings were observed quite at slower pace as mills have booked a large amount of material last in the previous week.

- PNS in 20ft container: $315-320/t CFR Jakarta
- PNS in 40ft container: $310/t CFR Jakarta
- Busheling in 20ft container: $327- 330/t CFR Jakarta
- Shredded 211: $302-303/t CFR Jakarta
- Blue Steel: $328-330/t CFR Jakarta
Thailand imported scrap offers up by $5: Thailand’s imported scrap offers have moved up, while not much trades were reported last week due to disparity in bids & offers.
- American origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) was quoted at $267/t CFR level last week, up by $7/t against the previous week. However, bids remained lower by $2-3 than current offers.
- Billet import offers in the country are noted to be stable at $445/t, CFR Thailand.
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), vehicle production in Thailand fall by 38.76% y-o-y in the first nine months, as per reports.
