India’s wait for witnessing the successful awardee of coal blocks under the first commercial mining auction is likely to extend further, which has been subjected to various obstructions since its inception.
In a recent development, the nominated authority carrying out the auction process, has sought additional information from the bidders in relation to the technical bids, which are to be submitted by 19 Oct ’20.
Upon the request of stakeholders, the schedule of auction process has already been extended over a month. As per the revised timeline, end date of examination of technical bids was marked 16 Oct ’20.
However, due to the latest notification, the schedule for auction is expected to be revised again.
It is pertinent to note that 23 out of 38 blocks had received bids in the technical round, but Saregraha from Jharkhand, Kuraloi (A) North and Chendipada blocks offered from Odisha which received a single bid are at a risk of withdrawal as they failed to realize the minimum bid criteria.
Providing a sigh of relief, Supreme Court has not granted any stay order against the petition filed by Jharkhand government to withhold the launch of auction of mines in the state.
