Australian govt to seek China clarification on coal import ban

The Australian government is seeking clarification from China on reports that Beijing has suspended purchases of Australian coal. Chinese power stations and steel mills have been verbally told to immediately stop using Australian coal, media reports claimed on 12th Oct’20. The biggest importer of Australian metallurgical coal, China imported $35 bn of met coal and $20 bn of thermal coal from Australia in FY20.
