Majority of Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab based billet makers are buying sponge from Jharkhand rather than Odisha due to less freight cost and similar base offers of sponge in both the locations. Recently, a purchase of C-DRI lumps from Ramgarh was reported at close to INR 20,000/t exw, equivalent to INR 22,400-500/t delivered to Mandi. The freight cost from Jharkhand to Mandi is about INR 2,400-2,500/t, while from Odisha it is about INR 3,100/t, via road delivery.
