India: Bids decline sharply in SAIL’s auction of defective steel

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) conducted an auction from its central India based Bhilai Steel Plant for defective steel products on 03 Oct’20. The auction noticed decline in bid prices compared to the last auction conducted on 22 Sep’20.

A total quantity of 26,647t defective steel was put up for auction, out of which 19,882t (74.61%) was sold and 6,765 t remained unsold. In previous auction held on 22 Sep’20, share of total sold quantity was around (65.93%). Bids for defective bloom fetched bids lower by INR 1,400/t against last auction.

Raipur billet prices fell in 2nd half of Oct’20 on limited trade inquiries. However prices have observed an increase so far in Oct’20 after trades picked up along with hike in sponge prices.
