India: NMDC’s iron ore production down 9%; sales fall by 11% in H1 FY’21

India’s largest iron ore producer – NMDC recorded iron ore production of 12.24 mn t in H1 FY’21. The output fell 9% on a yearly basis compared to 13.45 mn t in H1 FY’20. Out of 12.24 mn t, NMDC (C.G) mines produced 8.69 mn t (down 5% y-o-y) and 3.55 mn t was produced from it’s Karnataka mines.

In Sep’20, NMDC total output was recorded at 1.83 mn t (up 13% m-o-m) as against 1.62 mn t in Aug’20.

Karnataka government has granted permission to India’s largest iron ore miner, NMDC to start mining operations at Donimalai mines. The resumption of mining operations in Donimalai is expected to start shortly, Mr. Sumit Deb, CMD NMDC informed in the annual general meeting. NMDC’s Donimalai mine has an EC limit of 7 mn t pa.

Sales fall by 11% in H1 FY21’20

NMDC total iron ore sales for the first half of FY21 recorded at 12.91 mn t, down 11% as against 14.54 mn t in H1 FY’20. NMDC (C.G) contributed a major chunk of sales at 9.55 mn t (down 10% y-o-y) and remaining 3.36 mn t contributed by Karnataka mines.

In the month of Sep’20, NMDC sold 2.11 mn of iron ore, up 18% m-o-m as compared to 1.79 mn t in Aug’20.
