Rio Tinto CEO steps down following uproar over heritage destruction

In the wake of global criticism over iron ore giant Rio Tinto’s destruction of the aboriginal Juukan Gorge heritage caves to expand mining in Western Australia, CEO Jean-Sebastien Jacques has stepped down following pressure from significant stakeholders expressing concerns about executive accountability. Jacques would, however, remain as the CEO till Mar’21 until a successor is appointed.
