Odisha – India’s largest iron ore producing state recorded production at 4.87 mn t in Jun’20, down 21%, as against 6.18 mn t in May’20, according to the provisional data of the Odisha Govt. maintained by SteelMint. The figures include the type of material – fines, lump, and concentrate.
Few major miners including Serajuddin and Rungta mines (Jajang) whose leases expired by 31 Mar’20 halted their production as per MMDR Amendment Act. Also monsoons have affected the mining operations in the state due to which production volumes fell.
- Tata Steel stood the largest iron ore producer for the month at 1.44 mn t, down 3% on a monthly basis as against 1.49 mn t in May’20.
- SAIL recorded iron ore production at 0.77 mn t as compared to last month output at 0.63 mn t.
- Sarda mines recorded production at 0.65 mn t for the month (June’20), down 46% m-o-m as against 1.2 mnt in May’20.
- Rungta mines produced 0.59 mn t iron ore in June’20. The production recorded an increase of 10% as compared to 0.54 mn t a month ago in May ’20.
- Essel mining & Industries output stood 0.24 mn t, sharp rise against 0.08 mn t in May’20.
- OMC output recorded at 0.22 mn t, a significant drop of 80% as compared to 1.08 mn t in May’20.
