Tata Steel BSL- a major integrated steelmaker with a capacity of 5.6 mn t has recorded iron ore sourcing at 604,650 t in Q1 FY’21, up 48% as against 408,424 t in Q1 FY’20.
On a quarterly basis, sourcing witnessed 45% fall in Q1 FY ’21 as compared to 1,090,184 t in Q4 FY’20.
Out of the total sourcing for the quarter, 95% was from its captive mines at 572,686 t against 90,893 t in Q1 FY’20.
Sourcing from OMC dropped for the quarter to 31,964 t as against 99,680 in Q1 FY ’20.

Tata Steel BSL is planning to expand Bhushan steel capacity from 5.6 mn t to 8.3 mn t. They are also planning to enhance production at its captive iron ore mines around Jamshedpur and Kalinganagar.
Tata Steel reported a 37% q-o-q drop and a 34% y-o-y drop in output at its Indian operations to 2.99mn t in Q1 FY’21. Sales volume in India fell by 28% q-o-q and 26% y-o-y to 2.92 mn t in Q1 FY’21.
