Turkey: Imported scrap prices firm in recent deals

Turkish imported scrap prices remained firm since the opening of this week as buyers are actively booking their bulk cargoes for August shipments. Numerous deals have got concluded this week and the latest deals are.

  • A Baltic region-based scrap recycling yard sold a 13,000 t of bulk cargo to a Mediterranean region based steelmaker. The cargo comprised the entirety of HMS 1&2 (95:5) at an average price of $273/t CFR Turkey, putting HMS 1&2 (80:20) price at $270/t CFR Turkey and the cargo loading would start on 19th Aug’20.
  • Another Baltic region-based scrap yard recently sold a 30,000 t mixed grade bulk cargo to a major steel mill located in the Mediterranean region, consisting of HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $266.5/t and bonus (P&S) scrap at $276.5/t CFR Turkey.
  • Another steel maker based in same region (Mediterranean) booked bulk cargo from USA based scrap recycling center, consisting of HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $268/t CFR Turkey.
  • In a deal concluded by USA scrap supplier included a composite cargo being sold to Western Marmara region-based steel mill, comprising of 17,000 t of HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $267/t CFR, 8,000 t of shredded at $277/t CFR and 6,000 t of bonus scrap at $277/t CFR Turkey. The cargo loading would start second half of Aug’20 (21st Aug’20).

On normalizing the latest deals, Steelmint’s assessment of USA origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) scrap to Turkey now stands at $268/t CFR/t, remained stable from last week’s price.
