Amid drop in coal prices due to COVID-19 pandemic, Anglo-Swiss miner, Glencore has sought permission from Colombia’s National Mining Agency to idle its Prodeco coal unit (includes Calenturitas and La Jagua thermal coal mines) for a span of 4 years. The open pits have a capacity of 21 mn t and the production in 2019 was recorded at 15.6 mn t and 3.8 mn t in Q1CY’20.
