Anglo American- Kumba iron ore production for H1 CY20 recorded at 17.9 mn t, down 11% as against 20.1 in H1 CY19. The drop in production volume is due to lower workforce levels amid COVID-19 lockdown. On quarterly basis output fell 10% to 8.5 mn t in Q2 CY20.
The production at Sishen iron ore mine dropped by 10% to 12.36 mn t (as against H1CY19 at 13.76 mn t). At, Kolomela output decreased 12% to 5.56 mn t as unfavorable weather conditions resulted in safety-related stoppages and equipment reliability challenges towards the first quarter.
Kumba iron ore sales dropped in H1 CY20
The sales volume dropped amid logistic constraints and poor weather conditions.
1. The Kumba iron ore exports in H1 CY’20 recorded at 18.42 mn t as against 19.89 mn t in H1CY19.
2. The Kumba iron ore domestic sales dropped sharply to 0.35 mn t for the first half of CY20 against 1.46 mn t in H1 CY19. The domestic sales remained nil in Q2CY20.
Minas-Rio mine production picked up 17% in H1 CY20
Minas Rio mines, pellet production for the H1CY20 witnessed at 12.62 mn t (wet t basis) of high grade ore, up against 10.83 mn t in H1 CY19 reflecting productivity initiatives that have driven robust operational stability and, in particular, processing performance. On quarterly basis, output marked 4% drop in Q2 CY20 at 6.20 mn t.
In H1CY20 the Fe content of Minas Rio pellet feed improved to an average of 67.2% against 66.9% in H1 CY19.
Minas Rio pellet sales increased in H1 CY20
Minas Rio pellet sales recorded at 12.69 mn t (wet t basis) in H1 CY20, up 19% as compared to 10.62 mn t in H1 CY19. On quarterly basis, sales increased 9% to 6.61 mn t.
Anglo American 2020 production guidance:
- The 2020 production guidance for Kumba iron ore mine unchanged to 37-39 MnT subject to the extent of further COVID-19-related disruptions.
- Minas Rio production guidance unchanged at 22-24 mn t.
