Odisha Auction 2020: GM Iron and Steel bags Badampahar iron ore mine

GM Iron and Steel emerged as preferred bidder for Badampahar iron ore mine at a premium of 95.15%, shared market sources.

Odisha govt had invited bids for auction of Badampahar Iron ore and manganese mines lease in which 29 companies had actively participated including Rungta Sons, Yazdani, Kashvi Power, Super Smelter, Vedanta Ltd, Triveni Ignicon (P) Ltd, S.D Formento, etc. Thirteen companies had qualified the technical round for the auction.M/s Lal Traders & Agencies (P) Ltd was the previous lessee of Badampahar iron ore mine block. The mine has an EC limit of 1.5 MnT pa. The mine has a total geological resource of 6.16 MnT iron ore. Production of iron ore from the mines was recorded at around 0.72 MnT in FY’19.

In line with MMDR (Amendment) Act 2015, Odisha govt. towards early Feb’20 had put up 20 major iron ore and manganese mines for auction whose lease was expiring in March 2020. However, the auction process of Badampahar was put on hold due to some legal issues.
