India: Cargo Volume at 12 Major Ports Record 1.4% Marginal Growth in Apr’19-Feb’20

Indian Ports Association reported 1.42% marginal growth in cargo volumes i.e. about 642.95 MnT at the 12 major ports of India during the period Apr’19-Feb’20. The ports handled 633.93 MnT of cargo in the same period of CY’19.

The ports handled 49.98 MnT of iron ore during the period Apr’19-Feb’20, as compared to 34.92 MT in Apr’18-Feb’19.

While thermal coal shipments declined to 82.47 MnT during Apr’19-Feb’20, as compared to 95.97 MnT in the same period of CY’19.

The above stated 12 major ports of India are – Deendayal (erstwhile Kandla), Mumbai, JNPT, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Kamarajar (earlier Ennore), V O Chidambaranar, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (including Haldia).

These major ports handle about 60 per cent of the country’s total cargo traffic.
