Industrialists from Odisha have requested the state government to waive off fixed electricity charges & duties on their electricity bills for the time being.

Also, they have urged to defer the due date of bill payments till June’20 as industries have come to a standstill across the state, SteelMint’s reliable sources reported.

This step was taken after many state governments (Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh & Rajasthan) in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic relieved electricity charges and bill payment due date, in order to unburden financial pressure on the manufacturers.

At first, Gujarat government announced exemption of fixed demand charges for a month (Apr’20). Thereafter, Maharashtra government temporarily suspended it for 3 months and on 2nd Apr’20 the Uttar Pradesh government suspended it for a lockdown period.

Following the same, Rajasthan government also provided relief on electricity bill payment by deferring the payment due date until May 31st.

Also in Chhattisgarh, Raipur based steel mills have requested the state government to exempt fixed electricity charges & minimum demand charges but no update from authorities regarding the same has been received so far.
