South Africa: Chrome Ore exports Dip by over 36%

South African Ferro Alloys and Ores exports in Feb’20 dipped mainly due to lowered imports by China. The exports in February normally dips due to Chinese New Year, however, the holidays were extended by the lockdown announced by the Chinese government due to the Covid-19.

Manganese Ore: According to customs data, South Africa ’s total export volume of Manganese ore dipped by 3.5% in Feb’2020 from1,531,959MT in Jan’20 to 1,478,578 MT in Feb’20 and a Year on year increase of 2.74%. out of this, 60% was exported to China, a decrease of 0.1MnT M-o-M.

Chrome Ore: South African exports for Chrome ore decreased by 19% M-o-M from 1,316,665MT in Jan’20 to 1,070,909MT in Feb’20, and a Y-o-Y increase by 8.79%.

Ferro Chrome: South Africa’s total export of Ferro Chrome in February 2020 was 221,212 MT, a decrease of 125,435 MT from January, and a year-on-year decrease of 40.74%. Among them, 0.07MT was exported directly to China, accounting for 32% of the total exports, a decrease of 0.03MT from January.
