SCCL Coal Production Dips Marginally in FY20

Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has reported a slight fall in coal production attained during FY20 marked at 64.02 MnT as against 64.4 MnT in FY19.

It was the first Y-o-Y drop witnessed since 2013-14, when SCCL’s output had decreased 5% to 50.47 MnT.

The miner was unable to raise its production post-monsoon, as it exhibited a continuous Y-o-Y fall from August till the fiscal ending month. Apparently, output of 5.92 MnT in Mar’20 was the highest monthly production noted in FY20, but it was marked 9% lower on the year from 6.47 MnT in Mar’19.

As a matter of fact, SCCL’s monthly output had failed to breach the 6 MnT mark even once in the current fiscal, while the feat was attained four times in the previous term.

Lower overburden removal complemented the subdued performance from SCCL, as it fell 6% Y-o-Y to 353.43 Million cubic meters in FY20 registering its lowest total in past three years.

SCCL’s Coal Dispatch:

In the past two fiscals, SCCL had been dispatching more coal volume than the corresponding annual production. However, as a consequence of tepid demand from power sector, dispatch in FY20 had fell 8% Y-o-Y to 62.45 MnT, which was also accessed lower than the respective production recorded in the fiscal.

There was no improvement seen for coal lifting in the fiscal ending month, as the dispatch dropped to a 5-month low of 5.03 MnT in Mar’20.
