Bhubaneswar:
The
Odisha government has allowed miners operating under deemed renewal following
Odisha High Court's stay on the imposition of stamp duty. On the other hand,
according to some sources the state government is preparing to challenge the
order in the Supreme Court.
The Odisha steel
and Mines department in its July 3 notification has directed the district
collectors to collect stamp duty or take steps to close mining operations from
9th of this month. Challenging this the miners including Tata Steel,
SAIL, Essel mining,Rungta and mining body FIMI had gone to the Odisha High
court. The High court, after hearing the case has put an interim stay on the
May 9 notification and July 3 notification.
The
Odisha Stele and mines Minister Rajnikant Singh has said that the government is
currently examining the court order and would take necessary steps after this.
