India’s SAIL Logs 35% Sales Growth, Posts Record Production in Jan’20

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), maintaining the growth momentum in sales, has registered a 35% rise in sales during the month of January 2020 over the corresponding period of last year. In Jan’20, SAIL recorded 16.59 lakh tonnes of sales. During the April 2019–January 2020 (10 months) period, the company has achieved a 10.8% increase in sales over the same period of last year.

Incidentally, with the growth in sales in January 2020, SAIL has continued the streak of sales growth consistently as it had posted rise of 47% and 36% in sales during December and November-2019 respectively. During January 2020, SAIL exported 1.82 lakh tonnes steel, which is also the best ever export performance by the company in any month.

The company is maintaining a consistent growth momentum in sales during the year. At the same time, the prime rail production has also surged and crossed the 1 MnT mark in 10 months (April 2019–January 2020) registering an astounding 37% growth over the previous year. The company’s focused strategies have helped SAIL in surmounting the challenging market situations. The new and modernized mills across SAIL plants are also being rapidly stabilized which will enrich the product basket of SAIL substantially to cater to the evolving market requirements.

Sales aside, SAIL has scaled all-time highs in production parameters. During the month the steel plant registered the best ever monthly production of 323,362 MT of Hot Metal with two Blast Furnaces in operation. The previous best of 315,615 MT of Hot Metal production with two Furnaces in operation was achieved in November, 2019. The Steel Plant also registered highest ever monthly production of Plate Mill Plates by producing 52,276 MT plates in January, 2020. The previous best in this segment was 48,932 MT achieved in Nov’, 2013. The plant had also registered a highest ever single day record with two Blast Furnaces in operation by producing 11940 tonnes of Hot Metal achieved on 20th January, 2020. The Hot Strip Mill of RSP registered the best January production since inception by making 109,399 MT of HR (Hot Rolled) coils.

Similarly, the plant registered best January since inception in dispatch segment also by dispatching 288,416 MT of saleable steel thereby improving from its earlier best performance of 285,911 MT of Saleable Steel dispatch achieved in January 2019. In January, 2020 many major departments of the plant achieved their APP targets. The Plate Mill fulfilling APP with 118.8% and New Plate Mill with 113.7% registered outstanding performances.

With the upward production trend and favourable market demand, RSP is looking forward to going beyond the APP (Annual Production Plan) targets of the financial year 2019-20.
