Odisha Mines Auction: ArcelorMittal Opens Account with Thakurani Mines at 107.55 % Premium

Odisha mines auction 2020 is underway. In the 3rd iron ore mine auctioned so far in the state, ArcelorMittal emerged as ‘preferred bidder’ for Thakurani iron ore mines at a premium of 107.55%.

There were six technically qualified bidders for the Thakurani iron ore mine block namely ArcelorMittal, JSPL, BRPL, Amalgam, Orissa Metaliks and KJS. As per sources, the highest technical bid put was by Amalgam at 72.4% premium.

Kaypee Enterprises was the existing lessee of Thakurani iron ore mine block. The mine has an EC limit of 5.5 MnT pa and has exploration done upto G2 level. The mine has total geological resource of 180 MnT iron ore.

Production of iron ore from this mine was recorded at around 5.49 MnT in FY’19 and 3.735 MnT in FY20 (till Nov’19).

So far Odisha govt has auctioned three mines. JSW bagged Nuagaon and Narayanposhi mines, and ArcelorMittal won Thakurani mine.
